THE BUILDING SHOW
February 17- March 31, 2007
Opening Saturday February 17, 7-10pm
Buildings have become iconic figures of cities and countries; these
architectural wonders are either loved or despised by their neighbors,
visitors and passersby. Oftentimes buildings have deeply rooted
historical significance, they form skylines that are embedded into our
vertical memory and hold infinite stories within their walls.
Other times buildings are surrounded by controversy, neighborhoods are
rezoned, gentrification causes displacement and old buildings are torn
down and quickly rebuilt for new uses. In homage to these
vertical symbols Exit Art presents The Building Show, an
exhibition featuring twenty-six conceptual, realistic, personal,
intimate and analytical artworks that are defined by artists’ personal
relationships to existing structures.

Patty Harris
The Farnsworth House Flood
Patty Harris’ work deals with randomness. She has tracked data
gathered from random events, animal behavior and the weather. In
this animated mock documentary, she pairs an icon of modernism with
random forces of nature creating an experience of the house and its
aesthetic that could never be experienced in real time.
Patty Harris has extensively exhibited her work throughout NYC and
internationally including PS1, Snug Harbor Cultural Center and the
Ujadowski Castle in Warsaw. Her recent solo exhibition at SUNY
Old Westbury was reviewed in the New York Times and she has a
two-person show at PS122 in March.
