Since 1995, Exit Art has published 14 print portfolios containing works by more than 100 renowned artists. Spanning a range of printmaking processes such as Iris prints, woodcuts, hydraulic embossings, experimental silk screens, laser cuts, lithographs, monographs, and prints on rubber, the prints in Exit Art's portfolios have been produced by some of the most respected and well-known printers in New York and internationally.

This year's portfolio marks the first time that participating artists were asked to respond to a specific theme. Titled "SEA (Social Environmental Aesthetics)," the 2011 Print Portfolio contains prints that refer to El Yunque in Puerto Rico, the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest System and one of the most fragile eco-systems on the planet. The site was deeply important to Exit Art's co-founders, Jeanette Ingberman and Papo Colo, who initiated a plan to construct and operate an artist retreat center within the rainforest preserve,
a project that is still underway.

Printed Histories Closing Party: Live Silkscreening with Artist Collective, Goldmine Shithouse
Celebrate the last Saturday of Exit Art’s Printed Histories with Goldmine Shithouse!

Exit Art’s Silkscreen Thrown Down with GMSH features original screens by founding members, David Hochbaum, Travis Lindquist, and Colin Burns. For $5, GMSH will print on anything you bring…from t-shirts to bags to even the clothes on your back, so be sure to bring all your goodies to get
these amazing prints on your wares!

This event is free and open to the public.

Goldmine Shithouse’s primary focus is on painting, drawing, and collage, but has extended into the realm of video and music/punk rock art noise (Murder Baby). The collective work deals with sometimes violent and difficult themes, filtered through their inexhaustible sense of humor. The contrast of horror and comedy creates a paradox that is relevant, entertaining, and infectious. There are reoccurring themes and symbols throughout the work, including death, bunnies, ladders to nowhere, black hearts and clouds, among many others. The visual elements are derived from a variety of sources, including classical references, the artists' own sketchbooks, as well as the smorgasbord of popular culture. Celebrating their 9th year as an artist collaborative, the GMSH has exhibited and participated in residencies in New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, IL; Miami, FL; Seattle, WA; Salt Lake City, UT; San Francisco, CA; Berlin, Germany; and Stockholm, Sweden.
