ABOUT DIGIMOVIES

Digimovies is an innovative cinema platform to reflect today’s digital age. Exit Art defines “Digimovies” as digitally-produced video works of any genre – short, documentary, experimental, fiction, non-fiction, feature, animated, etc. Housed in our 70-seat digital theater, which contains a 5000 lumens HD projector as well as state-of-the-art audio equipment, Digimovies will be a site for weekly screenings, directors’ discussions, workshops and premieres.

Digimovies is a unique new destination for digital cinema in Manhattan. Exit Art is responding to technological shifts in the film industry and in culture by considering the digital medium as a redefining force in the presentation, distribution and reception of cinema. The objective of Digimovies is to promote cultural exchange; give exposure to emerging filmmakers; provide a new venue for directors to workshop their films; and to premiere an international selection of contemporary, independent digital movies, emphasizing works made in under-represented regions; films denied standard distribution; and youth-produced media. Additionally, Digimovies will pilot a new, scalable model of distribution based on the digital format's easy transferability by travelling our programs to a network of like-sized micro-venues.
